Electrical Product Safety Certification Scheme (EPSCS)

Australian Certification Services has developed a scheme to specifically encompass certification of low voltage electrical equipment and associated components that require such evidence as means to meet legislation in Australian states and territories. Such legislation exists in the form of Electricity Acts and Electricity Regulations (or equivalent) aimed at preventing the sale of unsafe electrical equipment. The types of equipment covered by this scheme and general procedures are described in Australian Standards and in particular AS/NZS 3820 and AS/NZS 4417.2

The scheme has been developed so that it may be accredited and be found acceptable to Australian Electrical regulators.

The process of certification involves design evaluation and independent testing to determine compliance with the applicable standard/s as referenced in AS/NZS 4417.2. Most referenced Australian Standards closely follow IEC (international) Standards with specific national variations for Australian conditions

Following successful evaluation the applicant is issued with a formal certificate of conformity identifying the equipment models subject to the certification and the related standard/s. The certificate would have duration of five years and may be renewed at expiry subject to reevaluation.
